What do you think is the future of AI?
I don’t know what the future holds for AI. Right now, modern AI is in its infancy. There isn’t enough evidence to suggest the role of AI in the future, aside from its value in a few areas, like upscaling images or videos.
The modern corporate climate is prone to constructing hype or building hype. They’re pushing AI tools and AI products as part a trend for “the next big thing.” The issue is that there’s no strong evidence to suggest that AI will be as foundational as programming languages, hard drives, relational databases, or the internet.
The current LLM tools and products aren’t true AI. They can only act as AI agents with a few extra components added to them. Even then, the core architecture doesn’t use flexible information processing methods.
They can be fun and useful, but there might be some fundamental limits with their core architecture.
I don’t think that the current AI agents will successfully replace human workers. They’re trained to produce content from human data. With no new human data, there’s the issue of data inbreeding, where AI produced content is fed into AI’s to produce more content.
As to whether a Skynet situation can occur, it’s entirely possible. Whatever exists, in terms of types of AI agents, will need to ensure that it can maintain itself without human intervention, before acting out.
