Forgive Yourself and Keep Moving

What’s something you’ve done that your past self would be proud of?

For me, this is an odd question.  I didn’t have any clear or explicit goals from before I was a legal adult, so I didn’t have any well-defined expectations for myself in the future.  High school me would be glad to know that I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree “on schedule” (i.e., immediate entry into a 4-year program after high school and completing the program in four years).

Past this point, things get more interesting.

Near the end of high school and throughout college career, I started to tinker and explore.  It was the wild west days of the interwebs.  Web 1.0 on the verge of transitioning to Web 2.0.  A wild playground in which I was able to leave a handful of marks.  Like my history as Dark_Jak47710II on GameFAQs, the Greek-era God of War community veteran who acted as a primary leader for the Chains of Olympus board from before the game was released.

Any version of me from this point onwards would likely be somewhat disappointed in myself.  The Bachelor’s Degree was the last thing that happened in a “timely” fashion.  Everything else has been delayed, with quite a bit of sidetracking.

Her areas of disappointment will probably match my areas of regret.

Eventually, she might be more forgiving of herself.

Regardless, live moves forward.  I’d much rather have a better life for myself, despite how things have gone.
