What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?
A prompt like this reminds me of how so many years of my life have gone unrecorded. Just left as memories that take more and more effort to pry loose as time goes on. The major unrecorded period is from my late teens to my mid-20’s.

As per the a previous daily prompt responses, this is when I started to develop a greater conceptualization of what I could do in life, which was fueled by the interwebs chaos of the 2000’s. The chaos for when Web 1.0 was transitioning into Web 2.0.
Before this point, I didn’t have clear expectations for myself and what I could do. There are a multitude of things that I could’ve done, which I never would’ve considered doing.
I had fantasies of being female. I never would’ve expected a transition, though I could’ve pursued one much earlier, as a legal adult.
I could’ve been more academically inclined. Despite my later achievements, I wasn’t much of a “performer.” I was more the type to teach herself how to play chess via The Chessmaster 3-D on the original PlayStation, back in grade school. It didn’t seem like I could do much academically, outside of courses for which I was naturally talented. I just assumed that people relied on natural talent to get by.
By the interwebs chaos era, I’m not sure as to exactly what I would’ve assumed that I couldn’t do. I think I was too busy with college and all of my random online activity to doubt myself in a coherent way. I suppose one of my doubts would’ve been for gaining thorough personal skills, because it seemed like mine were a bit weird or loose. If I’d gotten maybe less chaotic with things I might have been able to go against that particular doubt.
The lost era of the web surfer is an intriguing era of mine, with only a handful of remnants. Remnants like Dark_Jak47710II on GameFAQs and a YouTube channel that was created in August 2006. A YouTube channel that was only used to access flagged videos, make comments, rate videos, favorite videos, and subscribe to channels. A YouTube channel that has only seen regular uploads recently.

Remnants with scattered memories and weird applications of tech savviness. I can remember figuring out how to record videogame footage on a VCR through experimentation and uploading flash animations while watching a questionably legal copy of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children with my siblings on a laptop setup in the living room. For the latter, my household didn’t have quick Internet access until later in the 2000’s. Flash animations took a while to upload. Advent Children was a good way to pass the time.
